Out & about in tiree

There’s plenty to see and do throughout your stay on Tiree. You’ll find lots of useful information in your Welcome Pack, but here are a few highlights we know you’ll love:

Corrairigh provides the perfect base for exploring the island. Just a short drive or a relaxing 20 minute walk takes you to Balephetrish Beach, with its white sands and clear waters — perfect for a refreshing swim or a peaceful wander along the shore.

A little further along the bay, you’ll find the Ringing Stone (Clach a’ Choire) — a large boulder marked with mysterious ancient carvings. When struck with a pebble, it gives off a clear, metallic ring. Local legend tells that if the stone ever breaks, Tiree will sink beneath the sea. Whether you visit for the folklore, the archaeology, or simply the stunning views, it’s a truly memorable spot.

For history lovers, Tiree is full of stories. Visit the Skerryvore Lighthouse Museum in Hynish to learn about the island’s maritime past, explore the ancient broch at Dun Mor Vaul, or walk out to see the remains of Iron Age forts dotted along the coast.

The island also has a lively community spirit. Pick up a copy of An Tirisdeach at the local shop and post office, Bùth Bhàile in Crossapol, to find out what’s happening across the island during your stay.

Take a tour at the Isle of Tiree Distillery, where you can make your own gin and enjoy a cocktail with views towards the Skerryvore Lighthouse. Stop for lunch at Balemartin Café or The Hynish Centre, or treat yourself to an evening meal at The Reef Inn (advance booking for all is recommended). For a coffee or sweet treat, head to Hebridean Roast in Scarinish or Becky’s Bakes, and for local gifts or souvenirs, visit Chocolate & Charms or Tiree Makery.

Whether you’re here to walk the beaches, explore Tiree’s heritage, or simply soak up the peace and quiet, Corrairigh is perfectly placed for you to experience the very best of island life.

Tip: Tiree is a small island with only a few main roads, so it’s very straightforward to get around. Look out for single-track roads with passing places to allow others to pass, and always give a friendly wave to other drivers — it’s part of island life!
